Desi Calculation

Desi is the volumetric weight measure used in shipping charges. This tool calculates the estimated desi value from your package's width, length and height.

Calculating…

Calculation formula

Desi = (Width × Length × Height) ÷ 3000

How to interpret it?

Cargo companies usually base the charge on the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight ; for light but bulky products, desi is decisive, and for heavy but small products it is the actual kilogram.

The divisor may not be 3000 for every carrier. Some companies use a different factor and apply a minimum desi. So the result here is a preliminary calculation; check your carrier's tariff for the exact amount.

A practical saving point: shrinking packaging directly reduces shipping cost. Using unnecessarily large boxes loses money on every shipment regardless of the product.

Limitations: what does this tool not calculate?

The divisor varies by carrier. 3000 is used here; your company's divisor may differ.

A minimum desi may apply. On some tariffs, shipments below the calculated value are charged at the minimum desi.

Actual weight is not taken into account. The charge is usually determined by whichever is greater: actual weight or desi.
