VAT Calculation

This tool calculates the VAT amount and the VAT-inclusive total when you enter the net (VAT-exclusive) amount and VAT rate.

Calculating…

Calculation formula

VAT amount = Net amount × (Rate ÷ 100)
VAT-inclusive amount = Net amount + VAT amount
VAT-exclusive amount = VAT-inclusive amount ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100)

How to interpret it?

This tool goes from net to gross. If you are calculating in the reverse direction, that is, you have a VAT-inclusive amount and want to find the net amount, divide the gross amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). The net equivalent of a 1,200 TL VAT-inclusive amount at 20% is 1,000 TL.

A common mistake in e-commerce is treating the marketplace price as the net amount. The price you see on the storefront is usually VAT-inclusive; do not do your profit calculation without clarifying this distinction.

Limitations: what does this tool not calculate?

You enter the rate. The tool does not know the current rate, which varies by product and service group.

This is not tax advice. The result is for informational purposes; consult your certified public accountant for declarations and obligations.

Exemptions and reduced rates are out of scope. Special cases are not reflected in this simple calculation.

Frequently asked questions

How is VAT calculated?

The net amount is multiplied by the VAT rate: Net × (Rate ÷ 100). The amount found is added to the net amount to get the gross amount.

How do I find the net amount from a VAT-inclusive amount?

Divide the gross amount by (1 + rate ÷ 100). For 20%: 1,200 ÷ 1.20 = 1,000 TL.

Is the price on the marketplace VAT-inclusive?

The price shown on the storefront is usually VAT-inclusive; clarify this distinction when doing profit calculations.
